Media coverage for nitrate pollution in the Thames River basin

Research led by Dr Nicholas Howden that looked at water quality measurement over the last 140 years to track nitrate pollution in the Thames River basin was the lead story on BBC News online science and environment.

Research led by the University’s Department of Civil Engineering has looked at nitrate transport from agricultural land to water in the Thames basin.

The findings, which found that nitrate concentrations in the Thames rose significantly during and after World War II to about double their previous level, then increased again in the early 1970s, have been covered by BBC News Online science and environment, Daily Mirror, the Earth Times and the British Science Association.
