Earth scientists feature on BBC Radio 4's Material World

17 November 2011

Dr Matt Watson was interviewed about the SPICE (Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Engineering) project and Dr Jo Gottsmann about a new island forming in the Atlantic.

Dr Matt Watson was interviewed on BBC Radio 4's Material World about the SPICE (Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Engineering) project.  The project will investigate the feasibility of one so-called geoengineering technique: the idea of simulating natural processes that release small particles into the stratosphere, which then reflect a few per cent of incoming solar radiation, with the effect of cooling the Earth with relative speed.

Dr Jo Gottsman was interviewed about undersea volcanic eruptions that are causing a new island to form off the Canary Islands.
