PhD student wins dissertation prize

Stefano Longo, who completed his PhD in the Dynamics and Control Research Group at Bristol University’s Queens School of Engineering, has won the 2011 Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) Control and Automation Doctoral Dissertation prize .

Dr Longo was presented with his award at the 2011 IET Ambition and Achievement Awards ceremony in London last week [Wednesday 9 November].

The awards recognise some of the world's most outstanding engineers and technologists and acknowledge the talents of some exceptional students and young professionals.

In 2010 the IET’s Control and Automation Network launched a prize to recognise significant achievements for PhD students conducting research in the area of control engineering. The award is open to any person who had their PhD awarded by a UK institution.

Dr Guido Herrmann, Senior Lecturer in Dynamics and Control in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, said: “As Stefano’s supervisor, I am delighted about his achievement and wish him every success in his future career.”
