The evening, being held from 6.30pm to 8pm, will also highlight how the University of Bristol is ensuring its courses are as accessible as possible to everyone, regardless of their background or economic circumstances.
Staff from the University will explain what measures are being taken to support its students and what scholarships and bursaries are available, in addition to looking at what financial help is available nationally.
The University was recently praised in The Sunday Times’ 2012 University Guide for having “one of the most generous packages of student support” to counterbalance the £9,000 tuition fees.
Jane Fitzwalter, Student Funding Manager at the University of Bristol, said: “We recognise that changes to higher education funding will have a significant impact on students due to start their studies in 2012.
“We believe that a degree from Bristol is a highly valuable and worthwhile investment in an individual’s future and it is important that all prospective students understand the breadth of financial support that is available.
“There are a number of misconceptions which we would like to address during the information evening. For example, tuition fees aren’t payable upfront, rather students will only start to repay their loan once they’ve left higher education and are earning at least £21,000.
“Indeed, some local students might be able to study free of charge under our Access to Bristol Scheme, which sees tuition fees waived for academically able participants who are part of the first generation in their family to go to university and live in an area which doesn’t traditionally see its pupils going to university.”
