The half-day workshop includes a live link to Brazil for a talk from Dr Flavio de Campos from the Universidade de Sao Paulo on new developments on football stadia in his country.

Bristol University’s Dr Gloria Lanci and Dr Matthew Brown will give a talk on how the British passion for football shaped Sao Paulo, Dr Steve Millington from Manchester Metropolitan University will discuss the City of Manchester stadium and Dr Larissa Davies from Sheffield Hallam University will talk about football and urban regeneration.

Bristol architect George Ferguson, whose award-winning architectural and regeneration projects include the At-Bristol Millennium project and the Tobacco Factory, will also give a lecture.

The speakers will then take part in a round table discussion, open to the public, along with Professor Derek Offord, Director of the Bristol Institute for Research in the Humanities and Arts (BIRTHA) and John Barrow, a Senior Principal of Populous, the global design practice that has designed Bristol City's proposed new 30,000-seat stadium.

The workshop is supported by BIRTHA and the Centre for the Study of Colonial and Postcolonial Societies, University of Bristol.  It takes place from 2pm on Thursday 24 February in Lecture Theatre 1, 3-5 Woodland Road, Faculty of Arts, University of Bristol.
