Honorary degrees awarded at Bristol [22 February]

Bristol University is awarding honorary degrees to Julia Donaldson, a children’s author and Dr Jonathan Gipps, former Director of Bristol Zoo Gardens, at today’s [22 February 2011] degree ceremonies in the Wills Memorial Building.

Bristol University is awarding honorary degrees to Julia Donaldson, a children’s author and Dr Jonathan Gipps, former Director of Bristol Zoo Gardens, at today’s [22 February 2011] degree ceremonies in the Wills Memorial Building.

Julia Donaldson, children’s author and a Bristol graduate, will be honoured with the degree of Doctor of Letters at the 11.15 am ceremony. The orator for the ceremony is David Punter, Professor of English at the University.

Dr Jonathan Gipps, former Director of Bristol Zoo Gardens, will be honoured with the degree of Doctor of Science at the 2.30 pm ceremony. The orator for the ceremony is Dr Jon Bridle, Senior Lecturer in Biological Sciences at the University.

An honorary degree is a major accolade, awarded in recognition of outstanding achievement and distinction in a field or activity consonant with the University’s mission.
