Christine Barter, NSPCC Senior Research Fellow at the School for Policy Studies, was interviewed about the prevalence of extreme violent and sexual relationships among teenagers on  ‘Teenage Kicks’ on BBC Radio 4 last Friday [28 January].

This followed a recent talk entitled ‘How does the sexualisation of children affect young people’s attitudes and behaviours?’, which she gave as part of a major series of NSPCC talks in London about premature sexualisation.

Recently she and Professor David Berridge edited Children Behaving Badly? (Wiley), a book that challenges commonly held beliefs about peer violence.

Also with colleague Professor Berridge, she is conducting research on behalf of the NSPCC about intimate violence among disadvantaged adolescents. The research, which will report in the next few months, is exploring young people’s experiences of physical, sexual and emotional forms of dating violence, including their coping strategies and views on intervention.
