Professor Martyn Tranter in the School of Geographical Sciences is to receive the
Polar Medal ‘for extreme human endeavour against the appalling weather and conditions that exist in the Arctic and Antarctic’. Professor Tranter has spent many field seasons in the Arctic and Antarctic.
