Public Lecture – Brigitte Bardot: the world’s first modern ‘celebrity’

This lecture discusses Brigitte Bardot’s rise to stardom in 1950s France in terms of her ‘making’ through the mass media. Bardot was a public figure, ‘born’ at the same time as the modern French press: her first fashion picture appeared in 1949, the year Paris-Match was launched.

A haunting performance exploring the tension and suspense of the horror genre. Combining short glimpses of brutality with drawn-out scenes of abject horror, Drunken Chorus explores the roles of rhythm and structure in the creation of suspense.

studiospace – Her Naked Skin

London 1913 – militancy in the Suffragette Movement is at its height. Thousands of women of all classes serve time in Holloway Prison in their fight to gain the vote. Written by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, the first woman to have a play performed on the Olivier stage at the National Theatre, Her Naked Skin is performed, produced, designed and directed by students of the Drama Department.

Whitebone Productions – Bane

Inspired by hard-boiled detective stories and classic film noir, Bane is a hilarious one-man genre parody performed and written by Joe Bone. Hired hand Bruce Bane works the mean streets of pulp fiction. The show has a live guitar soundtrack written and performed by Ben Roe.
