Sandra Sweeting, 1948-2010

1 November 2010

Sandra Sweeting, former Accommodation Supervisor at Langford, passed away in late October.

Sandra commenced with the University in September 1991 as a part-time cleaner. Her leadership skills soon shone through and she was promoted to Leading Cleaner and then Accommodation Supervisor, where her role involved looking after the day-to-day operations of the two Langford halls of residence.

Sandra was 100 per cent committed to her staff and the students, always going the extra mile to ensure the residences were as good as they could possibly be. This included maintaining standards at the highest levels and fighting her corner for extra resources.

Sandra was hardworking and highly respected, but also a very caring person who always gave her staff her full support. I personally admired Sandra for her straight talking and her no-nonsense attitude, but I also loved the fact that she was loyal and very caring towards others; she will not be forgotten.

After nearly 20 years of service on the Langford site Sandra was very much part of the Langford family and a very valuable member of our Site Services team. She will be sorely missed by all her friends and colleagues at Langford, and will be a very hard act to follow.

Sandra had been fighting breast cancer since the beginning of the year and sadly passed away on 24 October 2010.

Family was everything to Sandra, and our condolences have been passed onto her husband Norman and three daughters.
