Bristol University is awarding honorary degrees to Mr Dick Penny, Managing Director, Watershed Media Centre and Mr Anton Bantock, retired schoolmaster, local historian and author, at today’s [16 July] degree ceremonies in the Wills Memorial Building.

Bristol University is awarding honorary degrees to Mr Dick Penny, Managing Director, Watershed Media Centre and Mr Anton Bantock, retired schoolmaster, local historian and author, at today’s [16 July] degree ceremonies in the Wills Memorial Building.

Mr Dick Penny, Managing Director, Watershed Media Centre, Chair, Bristol Old Vic, will be honoured with the degree of Doctor of Laws at the 11.15 am ceremony. The orator for the ceremony is Sir James Tidmarsh, MBE, University of Bristol Pro-Chancellor.

Mr Anton Bantock, retired schoolmaster, local historian and author, promoter of good causes, will be honoured with the degree of Doctor of Letters at the 2.30 pm ceremony. The orator for the ceremony is Dr Stella Clarke, CBE, Honorary Fellow of the University.

An honorary degree is a major accolade, awarded in recognition of outstanding achievement and distinction in a field or activity consonant with the University’s mission.
