Dr Speedy’s book, Narrative Inquiry and Psychotherapy, was originally published by Palgrave in 2008 and was well received in the UK and US. The work’s Chinese translator, Ying-Ling Hung, herself a doctoral student and member of Centre for Narratives and Transformative Learning (CeNTraL) at the Graduate School of Education, said: ‘This is an important book. There’s nothing like this available in Mandarin and I wanted people to have access to these new ideas.’

Dr Speedy commented: ‘Many of the conceptualisations in this book are complex and a lot of poetic, writerly language is used. This was a rare and ideal situation, since author and translator could work closely together, particularly when it came to the use of metaphor and imagery. It has been really interesting to work on this with Ying-Ling Hung.’

Dr Speedy’s book, which explores the borderlands between therapy and research practice and between arts-based and social science research, was described by Colin Feltham, Professor of Critical Counselling Studies at Sheffield Hallam University, in Therapy Today as ‘a well-structured, highly creative book that addresses a cutting edge topic … It is an unusual and brave text that aims to shake up assumptions’.
