The panelists on the first event, Education question time for Bristol include: Charlotte Leslie, Conservative Party candidate for Bristol North West; Ricky Knight, Green Party candidate for Bristol West; Stephen Williams, Liberal Democrat Party candidate standing for re-election for Bristol West and Kerry McCarthy, Labour Party candidate standing for re-election for Bristol East.
This event will be introduced by Dr Jane Speedy, Deputy Director of Research and chaired by Professor Tim Bond, Head of School, both from the Graduate School of Education at Bristol University. All questions to the panel will come from the audience and there will also be an opportunity for additional audience comments and discussion.
Dr Jane Speedy said: “This event will be a great opportunity for our future MPs to engage in a very live way with a range of current and future stakeholders, including teachers, trainee teachers, education researchers, Local Authority managers and school students. Some of the audience will be Bristol 6th formers who will be voting for the first time on May 6.”
The speakers at the second event, Bristol 2010: Representing Women? include: Liberal Democrat Councillor Barbara Janke, leader of Bristol City Council; Ricky Knight, Green Party candidate for Bristol West; Kerry McCarthy, Labour Party candidate standing for re-election for Bristol East and Adeela Shafi, Conservative Party candidate for Bristol East.
The event will be introduced by Sarah Childs, Professor of Politics and Gender at the University of Bristol and Dr Lisa Harrison, Senior Lecturer in Politics at UWE and chaired by Helen Mott from the Bristol Fawcett Society. There will be comments from representatives of four political parties before the floor is opened to questions.
Professor Sarah Childs said: “In a national General Election campaign that has been more characterised by attention to the party leaders’ wives, than to women candidates and women voters’ concerns, ‘Representing women’ puts women at the centre of the campaign in Bristol. Open to all, it enables questions that are important to women to be put to parliamentary candidates.”
Members of the public are welcome to attend both free events but booking is required at the ‘Education question time for Bristol’ event.
