Iceland's volcanic ash plume: Bristol’s volcanologists provide expert comment to the world’s media.

Dr Matthew Watson, a Lecturer in Geophysical Natural Hazards in the Department of Earth Sciences, provided expert comment to international media about Iceland’s volcanic ash cloud that has grounded flights across the UK and abroad. Dr Watson is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Group advising the Cabinet Office on the crisis caused by the eruption.

Dr Watson did interviews with the following media: Sky News, the Bristol Evening Post, the New York Times (syndicated to papers across the US and rest of the world), the Indian Express, CNN TV in the USA, Reuters, the Daily Express, Minnesota Public Radio, the Spanish national newspaper, El Pais, the international business channel, Bloomberg, French Television, France24, the Los Angeles Times, CBS Radio (one of the largest operators of radio stations in the US), 6PR Radio in Australia, BBC Radio Bristol, VEJA, a weekly news magazine in Brazil, the fourth most circulated in the world, Minnesota Public Radio, which operates a 38-station regional radio network in the upper Midwest US serving a regional population of 5 million people, Financial News online in the US,  BBC Radio 4's 'The World at One' [16 April], ITV West [16 April] and Channel 4 News [17 April].

Dr Jeremy Phillips, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Earth Sciences, did interviews with BBC Points West, BBC Radio Bristol, BBC Radio Somerset and LBC Radio in London and BBC News 24.

Professor Steve Sparks in the Department of Earth Sciences, who is also part of the Scientific Advisory Group advising the Cabinet Office on the crisis caused by the eruption, did interviews with BBC Radio 4’s 'The Today Programme', and Australia's national public broadcaster, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
