The University Teaching Fellowship Scheme is one way of recognising and supporting academics whose impact on students’ learning experience is exceptionally positive.

The Fellowships will make it possible for academics to spend a dedicated period of time on pedagogical research and to disseminate innovative, high quality teaching and learning practices at national and international levels. They will also stand the recipients in good stead when it comes to applying for a Higher Education Academy National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) .

Professor Harris is a Professorial Teaching Fellow in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology and Co-director of the Applied and Integrated Medical Sciences (AIMS) Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). The University’s judging panel considered her to be an outstanding applicant with an excellent track record as a teacher, educationalist and academic leader for the CETL, which is achieving national and international recognition. 

Dr Langton is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology and the Academic Director of E-Learning for the Faculty of Medical and Veterinary Sciences. The panel was particularly impressed by the innovative projects proposed, all of which are designed to enrich the student learning experience and will have wide applicability to subjects across the University and other institutions.

Professor Avril Waterman-Pearson, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education, who chaired the judging panel, said: “Judy and Phil are worthy recipients of the 2010/11 University Teaching Fellowships. They are inspirational figures and we are proud to have them here at Bristol.”
