Peter Lewis 1945-2009

12 October 2009

Peter Lewis, a member of Site Services, passed away on Monday 28 September after a long struggle with cancer.

We received the sad news this week that Peter Lewis had passed away on Monday 28th September, after a long struggle with cancer.

Pete Lewis joined Site Services as a cleaner in July 1998; Pete’s first role was at Rodney Lodge in Clifton Village. Less than a year later Rodney Lodge was sold and Pete moved to 43 Woodland Road (Old Baptist College) where he remained for the next 10 years and became a valuable member of the small cleaning team.

Pete joined the University after a long career with Imperial Tobacco, his last position prior to redundancy being at the cigar factory in Ashton.

Pete was a quiet man who never complained or moaned; he was always happy just to get on with his work and this was always done with a smile.

Even after he was first diagnosed with lymphoma he was very keen to get back to work and back to normal.

Unfortunately the Lymphoma struck for a second time in the summer of 2008 and reluctantly it was agreed, in April of this year, that it was best for Pete to retire on the grounds of ill health.

Pete was a family man who leaves a loving wife, Rosemary, and two daughters. Our sincere condolences have been passed onto his family. The funeral took place on Friday 9 October at Bristol South Crematorium.
