Honorary degrees awarded at Bristol

Bristol University is awarding honorary degrees to Professor Caroline Gipps, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Wolverhampton and Mr Iain Percy, double Olympic gold medallist, at today’s [13 July] degree ceremonies in the Wills Memorial Building.
Bristol University is awarding honorary degrees to Professor Caroline Gipps, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Wolverhampton and Mr Iain Percy, Olympic sailor and double Olympic gold medallist, at today’s [13 July] degree ceremonies in the Wills Memorial Building.

Professor Caroline Gipps, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton, and a Bristol graduate, will be honoured with the degree of Doctor of Laws at the 11.15 am ceremony. The orator for the ceremony is Professor Judith Squires of the University’s Department of Politics.

Mr Iain Percy, OBE, MBE, double Olympic gold medallist, member of the British Olympic Sailing Team, and a Bristol graduate, will be honoured with the degree of Doctor of Laws at the 2.30 pm ceremony. The orator for the ceremony is Mr Bob Reeves, Director of Sport, Exercise and Health at the University.

An honorary degree is a major accolade, awarded in recognition of outstanding achievement and distinction in a field or activity consonant with the University’s mission.
