Greg Spencer from the University’s Campaigns and Alumni Office and Dominic O’Dwyer from the University’s Language Centre are setting off on their journey this Friday [22 May] to help raise funds for Bristol Cancer Research.

With Greg starting from the northern-most point in Scotland, John O'Groats and Dominic from Land’s End in Cornwall, they each plan to cycle the 874-mile length of mainland Britain and meet up en route. Both cyclists have close relatives who have survived breast cancer, hence their aim to support cancer research at the University. The two had been unacquainted until they discovered by pure coincidence that their journeys share the same fund-raising goal and will begin on the same day.

Greg will be cycling as one of a pair, while Dominic will accompany five other cyclists from Bristol on his ride. The two men will depart this Friday [22 May] and hope to finish within 15 days by covering 50 to 80 miles a day.

Dominic said: “I'm looking forward to the challenge and am excited about the prospect of cycling the length of Britain at this time of year. It's good to know that I won't be just doing it for myself, but for cancer research as well."
