Dr Ranji Devadason from the Department of Sociology has been awarded a grant of £211,961 from the British Academy for her work on ‘entrepreneurs of globalisation’, people employed by multinational corporations and international NGOs who relocate for work.

Her research will investigate the activities and experiences of employees in international organisations which promote globalisation and examine how they deal with the personal and professional challenges of international working. It will compare the experiences of employees working for multinational corporations and international NGOs in London, Geneva and Stockholm.

This research will focus on the personal and professional qualities required by transnational employees in different sectors and consider how they deal with disruption and establish lives and homes ‘away from ‘home’.  In addition, it will identify what makes a good international workplace and what enhances worker wellbeing and job satisfaction in these two distinct types of global organisation.
