A jazz quartet made up of Bristol University medics will be playing a range of jazz classics, blues and ballads at Thornbury Arts Festival tonight [23 April] to help raise money for charity.

A jazz quartet made up of Bristol University medics will be playing a range of jazz classics, blues and ballads at Thornbury Arts Festival tonight [23 April] to help raise money for charity.

The quartet, called ‘Four in a Bar’, will also be launching their CD to help raise funds for the Kenya Orphan Project, one of the charities supported by the University’s Medical School.

The quartet plays original arrangements of a wide range of jazz classics, blues and ballads - from Gershwin and Ellington, through Jobim and the other masters of Latin jazz, to Roberta Flack and Eva Cassidy.

The quartet is made up of medical students, Sarah Musgrove (vocals) and Will Harris (double bass), Professor of Medicine, Gareth Williams (flute) and Professor of Ophthalmology, Andrew Dick (guitar).

Professor Williams and Professor Dick, said: "As somewhat older members of the profession, it's a pleasure and a privilege to provide the backing for these two highly talented musicians - a credit to the Medical School.  All the proceeds from sales of the CD will go to the Kenyan Orphan Project, which is a really good cause that is doing fantastic work - so please buy lots of copies!"

Tonight's event is sold out, although the CD is on sale for £9 from Sarah Musgrove, email sm4582@bristol.ac.uk, and will be available to buy after tonight’s show.

For more information on the event, which runs through to Sunday [26 April], visit the Thornbury Arts Festival website.
