Dr Anne Cole, 1918-2008

15 July 2008

Dr Anne Cole, a lecturer and programme administrator in Biochemistry, died recently. Professor Dick Denton offers a tribute.

Dr Anne Cole joined the University in 1946 as a Lecturer in the Department of Physiology, and was one of the founding members of the Department of Biochemistry when it opened in April 1964. She had a lot of local knowledge, which enabled her to play an important role in the very early days of the department. She became a Senior Lecturer in 1970.

In particular, Anne took over responsibility for setting up and running the Biochemistry course for dental students, and she ran this course with success and enthusiasm until she retired in 1982.

Anne celebrated her 90th birthday in early June 2008.
