Around 60 pupils from Teyfant Community School, Hartcliffe, will be taking part in a festive-themed sports day at Bristol University’s Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health tomorrow [Thursday, 4 December].

The pupils, aged between ten and 11, will be teaming up with University staff and student volunteers to take part in a range of activities such as trampolining, fencing, multi-skills games, a sports quiz and a Christmas card-making competition.

The aim of the annual event is to encourage and motivate the pupils to participate in sport, try new activities and help them celebrate the festive season.

The day will also serve as an opportunity for the University’s 22 student and staff volunteers, who are part of the University’s Community Sport Volunteer Scheme, to complete a practical part of their Sports Leaders Award. The scheme enables staff and students to complete sport leadership, coaching and officiating courses. The volunteers support University and community club development as well as delivering sport and activity events for local schools and youth groups.

Susie Sims, Community Sport Development Officer, said: “We hope the pupils have a fun day and that it provides them with a very positive sporting experience. The event is also an excellent opportunity for staff and students to get involved with a community project and experience the rewards of volunteering.”

The day has been funded by the University’s Alumni Foundation and law firm, Linklaters. The event will run from 10 am to 4 pm on Thursday 4 December at the University’s Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health, Tyndall Avenue, Clifton, Bristol.
