Two academics in the Department of Mathematics have been awarded a 2008 Philip Leverhulme Prize. These Prizes, with a value of £70,000 each, are awarded by the Leverhulme Trust to outstanding young scholars who have made a substantial and recognised contribution to their particular field of study, who are recognised at an international level, and whose future contributions are held to be of correspondingly high promise.

The recipients from Bristol are Dr Harald Helfgott, who works in number theory, Diophantine geometry and group theory; and Professor Andreas Winter, who works in quantum information.
