Endurance runners, Philippa Aukett, Claire Hallissey and Tom Russell, each qualified to a very high-level to win invitations to the trials, being held in the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
The students have also won medals at the British Universities Championships earlier in the year. Pathology and microbiology student, Claire Hallissey, won gold in the women's 10,000 metres. Civil engineering student, Philippa Aukett, won bronze in the women's 800 metres, and mathematics and philosophy student, Tom Russell, also won bronze in the men's 5,000 metres.
Keith Brackstone, University endurance coach in the Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health, said: "This is the culmination of three years hard work for each of these athletes. Taking part in these trials would be an invaluable experience for their long-term development, which now includes aspirations for the 2012 Olympics.”
