The three-day event aims to encourage pupils to participate in a variety of sports along with offering advice on how they can get involved in sporting activities in their area. Guest speaker and paralympian, Stephen Thomas, will be sharing his experiences of sporting excellence and his passion for sailing with the pupils on 1 July.
The festival activities include football, polybat, athletics, tee ball and tag rugby, with mixed teams representing their schools and a focus on fair play and teamwork. At the end of the day each participant is awarded a medal and certificate.
Karen Harvey, Community Sport Development Manager at the University of Bristol, said: “This is a sister event to the Bristol Festival of School Sport and the aim is to deliver a high-quality, fun event, which inspires and motivates pupils to stay active by playing sport.”
The event is also part of the community programme, linked to the 2008 Bristol and Bath UK School Games, which takes place from 28-31 August.
The West of England Festival of Sporting Ability is a partnership initiative between Wesport's Competition Managers and Inclusion Team and the University of Bristol, with funding and support from the John Rutley Sport Fund and Bristol International Airport.
