Professor David Gordon of the School for Policy Studies has been appointed to the Child Poverty Expert Group.

The group will also advise the Assembly Government on the development of a new Child Well Being Monitor for Wales. The Monitor, which will be produced in September 2008, will track the quality of life of children and young people in Wales across a range of dimensions, including child poverty.

David Gordon is Professor of Social Justice and Director of the University's Townsend Centre for International Poverty Research. He has provided policy advice on child poverty and related issues to governments, international organisations and local authorities for many years, both as paid consultant or researcher and unpaid academic expert co-opted on to public advisory bodies.

The other panel members are Dr Samantha Clutton, Research and Policy Officer at Barnardo’s Cymru; Anne Crowley, Policy and Research Director at Save the Children; and Dr Peter Kenway, Director of the New Policy Institute.
