The University’s Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health is holding a Wellness Day for disadvantaged jobseekers on Monday 25 February in conjunction with Business in the Community’s (BiTC) Business Action on Homelessness Programme.

The Wellness Day is designed to encourage homeless people and those at risk of homelessness to stay healthy and energised as they look for work or start a new job. The event is an extension of the Centre for Sport’s community engagement work, building on its relationship with local partners such as BiTC to support the personal and professional development of people in the Bristol community.

The programme will deliver sessions on topics such as diet, stress management and relaxation techniques to help participants make sustainable behavioural changes in their everyday lives. Participants will include refugees, people with drug and alcohol addictions, young people who have run away from home and women who have suffered domestic violence.

Karen Harvey, Healthy Lifestyles Manager in the Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health, said: "Being healthy and energised when taking on any new challenge such as finding or changing jobs is important. We're delighted to share our knowledge and experience with a group of people who are learning how to make healthy decisions and choices to secure a quality of life that we can too easily take for granted.”

The Wellness Day will take place at the University’s Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health, Tyndall Avenue, from 12 noon to 4 pm.
