The winning entry of a design competition, in which children were asked to create a new logo for Bristol University’s sport camps T-shirts, is revealed today [Monday 5 November].

The winning design was created by Redland High School pupil Chloe Beresford, aged 11. Chloe will be presented with her prize, the T-shirt bearing her new logo, at the school’s assembly today.

The competition was organised by the University of Bristol’s Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health, which runs the sport camps for local children during the summer vacation.  The competition received more than 50 entries and was open to all children attending the camps. The new logo will be printed on the University’s camp T-shirts next year and will also be used on the publicity and advertising material.

John Wilford, Sports Development Manager at the University, said: “The holiday sport camps we run are a great way to give young people an early introduction to University, helping them discover a range of sporting opportunities, and make some new friends.  The enthusiasm and creativity that so many of these young people put into designing the logos show what the camps mean to them and Chloe’s design is a worthy winner.”

Caroline Bateson, Headmistress at Redland High School for Girls, said: “We are delighted that Chloe’s creative talent has been recognised in this way.  We applaud Bristol University’s initiative in introducing children to sports they may not have played before as it echoes our own approach towards encouraging the girls in our care to adopt healthy lifestyles.”

The sport camps, run in conjunction with the University’s Positive Working Environment initiative, provide children with an opportunity to experience University facilities along with introducing them to sports they may have not played before.
