‘Remember me’ is an exhibition of scientific and artistic installations to raise awareness and increase understanding of Alzheimer’s disease. It marks the 100th anniversary of the first published description of the disease by Alois Alzheimer in 1907. The exhibition will run at the Create Centre, Bristol, until Thursday, November 1.
Scientists from the University of Bristol, together with the charity BRACE (Bristol Research into Alzheimer’s and Care of the Elderly), have provided exhibits with information on symptoms, memory, diagnosis, pathology, genetics and causes of the disease, and also information for carers.
In addition there will be an exhibit on treatments, which will explain how the current drugs work, what may be available in the future and how people can help themselves now.
The scientists have also worked with a network of artists to help create a response to the science. This includes artists from the University of the West of England and the Portsmouth-based women artist group, Catalyst. These art exhibits will allow the visitor to reflect, and hopefully to see the disease from a number of different perspectives.
On Thursday, November 1 at 12.30 pm, Richard Aylwin and Karen Hayes will give a live poetry performance and discuss recent art projects with local dementia patients.
The exhibition is funded by the local charity BRACE, who celebrate their 20th anniversary, and Eisai Pharmaceutical Company.
