The season kicks off with Andrew Dawson and his new show Leitmotif, which was first seen at the Edinburgh Festival this year. Andrew has worked with various artists to produce this show, including Aardman Animations, with whom he made an extraordinary film. Andrew is also including his stunning piece Space Panorama, which is the story of the Apollo 11 moon landing, told with only hands and a black-clothed table for a stage. This show coincides with the 50th anniversary of space travel. Andrew has played to diverse audiences, such as an astronaut reunion in Houston, which included Buzz Aldrin; Air Venture in Osh Kosh, the largest air show in the world and the Hayward Gallery in London, in front of Michael Lights photographic exhibition ‘Full Moon’. It is part of the Drama Department’s policy to give new companies formed by its graduates an opportunity to perform at the Wickham. The newest company, Kettle of Fish took their first production to the Edinburgh Festival this year. It is a devised piece called Tequila Mockingbird in which the company confront a multitude of self-help books, expert advice and quack remedies, determined to test out their promises of money, power and happiness. We are offering a second opportunity to catch two shows which were shown earlier this year at Mayfest at the Bristol Old Vic. Hysteria, presented by Inspector Sands and Stamping Ground Theatre, was the winner of the Total Theatre Award at Edinburgh in 2006. It is about a man and a woman on the most awkward dinner date of their lives. With irreverent humour, vivid physicality and creative sound and lighting, Hysteria draws its audience into an arresting world where the main course is a fight for survival and a banana can move you to tears! Another hit at this year’s Mayfest was Bristol-based artist Tom Marshman’s show Finding My Inner Cowboy. Confused about the manly codes of etiquette, he struggles on, in search of enlightenment, taking up various cowboy pursuits from bucking broncos to learning to lasso. The all female Bristol-based company Lost Luggage present their new show this autumn, Brittle Secrets. This bold and quirky piece of theatre looks at the choices we make, the lies we tell, the traps we fall into and the lengths we go to conceal the truth.
