Bristol remains one of the UK’s most popular universities in terms of the number of applicants per place and was also rated in the top ten in the Top Universities League Table, Times Good University Guide 2007.
Around 40 of the University’s undergraduate departments are taking part and will be hosting a series of activities and information events including over 60 different lectures on a diverse range of subjects such as ‘Hollywood’s hippest mathematics: random matrices and Riemann zeros’, ‘Geology and life on Mars’, ‘Human cancer: What have diet, genes and cell suicide got to do with it’, ‘Microbiology: super bugs – is resistance futile?’, ‘The study of the mind’ and the ‘Physics of ice cream’.
There will also be a chance for students to visit University accommodation as well as an exhibition in the Victoria Rooms for them to find out more about the student support services on offer.
Over 100 student stewards, wearing red T-shirts, will be on hand to help visitors find their way around the University precinct. There will also be general information talks in the Wills Memorial Building with specific sessions for parents, teachers, careers advisers and mature students.
The University’s Director of Student Recruitment, Access and Admissions, Angela Milln, said: “It’s a pleasure to have so many people visiting us and we hope students find the day informative and enjoyable. The Open Day is a great opportunity for students to see what Bristol University has to offer.”
The University will be open to visitors between 10 am and 4 pm on Open Day.
There will be a further Open Day for the Faculties of Science and Medicine on Monday, 2 July between 10 am and 3 pm.
