Staff in the School of Chemistry have received a number of grants recently. These include:
- a grant from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) to Professor Tom Simpson (Principal Investigator), Dr Russell Cox, Dr John Crosby, Professor Chris Willis and colleagues at the University of Birmingham for a project entitled ‘Biosynthesis of polyketide antibiotic mupirocin by pseudomonas fluorescens’, totalling £790,000 (Bristol's portion is £356,384).
- a four-year BBSRC grant to Professor Dek Woolfson for his project ‘Decorating self-assembled nano-to-mesoscale peptide fibres with functional proteins and protein complexes’ (partly in collaboration with Dr Russell Cox and Dr David Dawbarn at Bristol and with Paul Barker in Cambridge) totalling £700,000.
- a grant from the Wellcome Trust to Dr Matthew Crump (with Dr Kevin Gaston, Professor Tom Simpson, Professor Anthony Davis and Professor Bass Hassan) to purchase an NMR cryo-probe, totalling £275,378.
- a grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to Dr Fred Manby (Principal Investigator), Dr Adrian Mulholland and Mr McIntosh-Smith of ClearSpeed Technology, for a project entitled ‘Accelerating rational drug design with multi-threaded array processors’ totalling £124,564.
- an EPSRC grant to Professor Kevin Booker-Milburn (Principal Investigator) and Professor Guy Lloyd-Jones for a project entitled ‘Development of New Catalytic Protocols for Alkene Difunctionalisation’ totalling £547,852.
