Horse lovers are in for a treat on April 2 when Bristol University's Equine Centre, one of the world's foremost facilities of its kind, opens it doors to the public for an Equine Education Day.

Horse lovers are in for a treat on April 2 when Bristol University's Equine Centre, one of the world's foremost facilities of its kind, opens it doors to the public for an Equine Education Day.

The day, aimed at trainers, owners and riders in all disciplines and at all levels, will feature several leading experts who will be giving a series of talks, tours and demonstrations about key aspects of equine care.

During the morning specialist clinicians, who are internationally recognised as leaders in their particular field of veterinary science, will talk on subjects including soft tissue surgery for colic, orthopaedics associated with laminitis and endoscopy.

After lunch a tour and ward round of the Equine Hospital stables, designed to hospitalise horses in the safest possible environment, will be given by a clinician who will be talking through the cases there at present. This will be followed by a demonstration and talk by Alison Talbot about ultrasound used for clinical evaluations.

Elizabeth Coombs, Fundraising Manager for the Langford Trust for Animal Health and Welfare, said: "In accordance with the Langford Trust's aim to foster public education, this promises to be a unique event for anyone who is interested in learning more about horses. Specialists at Langford are renowned for their work in a range of equine areas including soft tissue and ENT surgery, orthopaedics, anaesthesia, imaging, exercise physiology, internal medicine and behavioural problems."

The day, organised by The Langford Trust for Animal Health and Welfare, will take place on Monday 2 April, Langford House, University of Bristol, School of Veterinary Science, Langford, North Somerset, Bristol from 10 am to 4 pm.

The Langford Trust for Animal Health and Welfare is a registered charity that raises funds for the University of Bristol's School of Veterinary Science. The Langford Trust aims to foster public education in animal health and welfare while developing and implementing methods of livestock production conducive to the health and welfare of animals.

The Equine Centre is a dedicated equine referral centre, which provides specialist advice, diagnosis and treatment for horses throughout the South West of England and Wales. It has a major responsibility for the investigation and treatment of horses it also plays an invaluable role in veterinary undergraduate and postgraduate education as a teaching facility.

The centre also has a first opinion equine practice, which complements, and is fully integrated with the referral centre. This allows first opinion clients to receive the best veterinary care available with immediate support from our recognised specialists.
