Bristol RAG strikes gold

5 February 2007

Students from the University’s RAG raised £5,888 for Cancer Research UK in a street collection in Edinburgh at Hogmanay this year.

Professor David Harrison, Director of the Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre, said: ‘I would like to congratulate Bristol’s students on this marvellous achievement. They are a credit to their university’.

Jon Medcraft, RAG chair, added: ‘It was a magnificent effort from the entire Bristol team, who gave up a whole week raising money for those in need. They should be very proud of themselves’.

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading independent organisation dedicated to cancer research. It carries out scientific research to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, and its findings are used to improve the lives of all cancer patients.

In 2005/06, 4,500 students got involved in RAG events, raising £124,000. The spring term sees a frenzy of RAG activity, including the RAG Ball, to be held on 17 February this year, and RAG week, from 24 February to 3 March. For more information, go to www.bristolrag.org.uk.
