More than 800 graduates returned to the University for the Convocation Reunion Weekend 2006 in July.

Many were celebrating 25, 30, 40 or 50 years since their graduation, and some travelled from as far afield as South Africa and New Zealand to join this special event.

The weekend began with a visit to the Bristol Laboratory for Advanced Dynamics Engineering (BLADE) for lectures and supper on the Friday evening. Saturday was the main focus of the weekend, with reunion lunches taking place around the University precinct at venues including the Victoria Rooms, Wills Memorial Building and Royal Fort Gardens.

Alumni enjoyed reminiscing over lunch so much so in the case of the 1956 reunion that graduates finished up with a thunderous rendition of ‘I am a Bristol man’. Memories were further refreshed in the afternoon when many alumni and their guests took part in department visits, while others attended an enlightening lecture by Sir Neil Cossons, Chairman of English Heritage, on ‘Brunel and his Legacy’. The weekend ended with a trip to the prize-winning ss Great Britain on Sunday.
