An unusual charity art exhibition, organised by Bristol University’s Student Community Action (SCA), takes place this Saturday [April 30].

The Art Garden will present the work of fifteen of Bristol’s freshest graffiti artists, painters, photographers and illustrators along with an outdoor live graffiti show.

The exhibition is being held to help support local artists and raise funds towards Oxfam’s work in Sudan.  More than 1.7 million people have fled their homes in Darfur, Western Sudan, and are now living in makeshift shelters in temporary camps or on the edge of villages in Darfur and across the border in eastern Chad.  Oxfam is working across this region, constructing latrines and providing clean drinking water and washing facilities to prevent the spread of disease as well as basic necessities such as buckets, blankets and clothing.

Octavia Morris, Art Garden Co-ordinator, said: “In Bristol we are able to go about our everyday lives in relative freedom and comfort, it is important for us to remember those in Sudan who can’t.  We are delighted to welcome people to this event, supporting local artists and the people of Sudan.”

The evening is open to members of the public and starts at 6 pm at St Werburgh’s Community Centre, Horley Road, Bristol.  Tickets, priced £3.50, will be available on the door.  All profits from the event will be donated to Oxfam.
