Green issues are highlighted at this year's University of Bristol Union Environment Fortnight. Organised by students, Enriv05 comprises events which aim to raise money for environmental charities, promote environmentally sustainable living and raise awareness about environmental issues. Envir05 runs from Monday 25 April to Friday 6 May.
Highlights of the fortnight include:
Fancy dress sponsored cycle to Bath and back.
Fifty students will cycle to Bath and back in aid of Lifecycle UK, a Bristol based cycling charity which promotes healthy individuals, inclusive communities and an unspoilt natural environment.
Open air production of Wind in the Willows in the grounds of Goldney Hall, Clifton.
Student production based on the book by Kenneth Grahame. Money from ticket sales will go to the Avon Rivers Project, a local charity concerned with preserving and recovering rivers in and around Bristol.
Other events include an environmental pub quiz in the student bar, a Co-Op Workshop on Environment and the Consumer and a debate on the Kyoto Protocol.
Jo Weston, Envir05 co-ordinator said: “Envir05 promises to be a fun-packed fortnight which will raise lots of money for charity but also draw students’ attention to the increasing magnitude of the concerns that are arising as a result of the human impact on the environment, encouraging more involvement with these issues and offering solutions starting with our day to day lives.”

Is the Kyoto Protocol a Good Idea? – A Debate, Thursday 28 April, 5.30pm, Frank Lecture Theatre, Wills Physics building, Tyndall Avenue, BS8 1TH. Speakers include Charlie Bolton (Green Party Member for Bristol South), Jeremy Nicholson (Director of the energy intensive users group), Tobin Webb, UBU Environment Officer and Can Okar, former UBU president.
