Wessex Water is investing up to £5 million to build a new tunnel from the centre of Bristol to reduce sewer flooding in the city.

Wessex Water is investing up to £5 million to build a new tunnel from the centre of Bristol to reduce sewer flooding in the city.

Major tunnelling work will not start until summer 2006 but, in the meantime, test drilling will be undertaken at a number of locations across the city from 18 April.

The University of Bristol owns much of the land under which the tunnel will run and is working in close partnership with Wessex Water to ensure minimal disruption during the test-drilling phase.

The investigative work will be completed by mid-July. Care is being taken in the planning phase to avoid disruption to key University events such as examinations, graduation ceremonies and Student Open Day.
