First Councillors for Political Affairs, Dariusz Laska from the Polish Embassy and Max Maldacker from the German Embassy, will be giving the talk entitled 'Poland and Germany in a United Europe', followed by a discussion with questions from the audience. The Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Ron Hodges, and the Honorary Consuls of Poland and Germany in Bristol will also be present at the event.

The talk will address all aspects of Poland and Germany's relationship looking at economic matters, along with addressing both countries' pasts and looking forward to their future roles in a united Europe.  There will be reference to the newly expanded European Union (EU) in particular Poland's entry into the EU in 2004, looking at the benefits and disadvantages for both countries.

Karolina Stein, President of Bristol University's German Society, and who is of Polish background, said: "Poland and Germany's relationship has often had a wide reaching influence on Europe's history and is of relevance to us all."

The talk, will take place at The Apostle Room, Clifton Cathedral, Pembroke Road, Clifton, Bristol at 7 pm on Thursday, February 24.  Tickets are £5 for adults however entry is free for students. A buffet and refreshments, including some light musical entertainment from the Filtonairs, will be on offer following the talk.

The lecture has been organised in association with the University of Bristol's Polish and German Societies, the Bristol Hannover Council, and the Anglo-Polish Society of Bristol and the Southwest.
