Be in the running

Press release issued: 9 February 2005

Bristol University's annual Half Marathon and 5k charity fun run takes place later this month.

Bristol University's annual Half Marathon and 5k charity fun run takes place at Coombe Dingle Sports Complex on Sunday, February 27.

The event will raise money for the Children's Hospice South West (CHSW) 'Babe's Big Appeal', with £1 from every entry going to the charity.  CHSW hope to raise £15 million to build, equip and endow a new children's hospice, Charlton Farm.  All entrants will also be encouraged to raise money for the Asian Tsunami appeal through sponsorship.

This is the 16th year the event, sponsored by Accenture, has run and organisers are hoping to repeat last year's success by attracting over 600 runners.

The event is open to all, and it's a great opportunity to meet new people and get fit at the same time.  All runners will receive a goody bag.

Ed Hill, Athletic Union (AU) Chair, said: 'This event continues to grow from strength to strength and it's always a really fun day.  It gives students the chance to compete or simply participate alongside the wider Bristol community.'

The event is open to individual and team entries.  Entry costs, in advance, are: half marathon - individual, students, £10; public, £15; teams of four, students, £35; public, £50.  5k charity fun run - individual, students and public, £5; teams of four, students and public, £16.

Entry forms, dietary advice and training information are available from the AU office, Students' Union, Queen's Road, the Indoor Sports Centre, Tyndall Avenue, Coombe Dingle Sports Complex, Coombe Lane or they can be downloaded from www.bristolau.co.uk.

Entrants to the Half Marathon must be 17 or over, and any 5k charity fun run participants under the age of 16, must have parental consent to enter.

The half marathon and 5k charity fun run, fancy dress optional, starts at 1 pm.

The 5k charity fun run course will be run within Coombe Dingle Sports Complex.  The half marathon course is two laps of a set course starting from Coombe Dingle Sports Complex and looping around the Downs and through Wills Hall.
