Runners participating in the 16th Bristol Half Marathon this Sunday will benefit from injury assistance and advice provided free of charge by Bristol University experts.

Runners participating in the 16th Bristol Half Marathon this Sunday [12 September] will benefit from injury assistance and advice provided free of charge by Bristol University experts.

Four physiotherapists and an osteopath from the University will be on hand at the end of the race to attend to any sports injuries the runners might sustain.

The experts will operate from a special injury tent equipped with couches, medical supplies and ice, which will be set up in Queen’s Square.

Kate Falkner, Exercise and Sports Medicine Manager said: “The University is delighted to support the Bristol Half Marathon.  This is the first time we’ve offered to help in this way and we hope to be able to provide such assistance at the event for many years to come.

“As well as looking after people on the day, we will also be encouraging runners to attend special assessments at the University’s Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health.  These are designed to help people run as best they can by providing an assessment of their running style, helping to correct any problems so that they can run further and faster without pain and avoid future injuries.”

The University’s Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health on Tyndall Avenue is fully open to the public.  For further information on services and facilities available, please call 0117 928 8810.

The Centre aims to promote understanding and active participation in sport and physical exercise, with the ultimate goal of producing good health and personal well-being .  It is committed to providing exercise programmes focused on individual need and the achievement of personal goals, high quality supervision and professional health/exercise advice, and the best possible injury assessment, treatment and rehabilitation service.  It also works with appropriate bodies to provide sporting opportunities for all, offering the maximum opportunity for talented athletes to fulfil their potential.
