The day offers pupils the chance to try netball, aerobics, trampoline, badminton and swimming with guidance from the students. The event is the final training for the students, who are studying to become Community Sports Leaders. Next term they will be volunteering in the local community as sports coaches.
The Student Community Sports Volunteer Scheme aims to train students as Community Sports Leaders and place them as assistants with existing local children's sport and activity projects.
This term all volunteers have received free training in the nationally recognised Community Sports Leader Award and a Level 1 coaching award in their chosen sport. This is in addition to the first aid and child protection training provided by the University's Student Community Action (SCA).
Jim Holmyard, Sports Development Manager at the University, said: "The project helps students who have an interest in sport become involved in the community while they are studying at Bristol, as well as obtaining a recognised award.
"We are looking forward to Teyfant's visit. Some of the pupils may discover a talent that will lead to a career in sport; others may be inspired to pursue higher education; and all of them should have a really enjoyable time."
The Student Community Sports Volunteer Scheme was initiated through the University's Community Outreach programme, which aims to be a responsible member of the community by supporting the social and economic infrastructure of the area.
