International students from Bristol University will be showing Bristol what they are made of this Saturday [November 29] in REACH Global, the largest international student event in the city for many years.
REACH Global aims to encourage communication and to raise awareness amongst international students, home students, and the wider Bristol community.
Over 350 people took part in One World Day last year and the Students’ Union decided to expand the event. This year REACH Global will consist of two activities. The first is the Bristol Games, an Olympic type event where participants take part in four different sports, basketball, football, badminton and snooker. This will take place at sports centres all over Bristol on Saturday.
The second event, Global Fiesta, is a large fair, based in the Students' Union on Saturday evening. There will be stalls displaying information, photographs and artwork relating to many different countries, as well as offering tasty examples of national dishes for visitors to sample. The event is free and everyone is welcome.
Sharon Enav, Vice-President (Welfare) of the Students’ Union, said: “REACH Global is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all that is positive about diversity and culture. People come from all over the globe to study at Bristol and these overseas students contribute greatly to the vibrant social and intellectual life of the University.”
Zaw Lin Moe, the Union’s Developing Countries Officer, said: “This is a great opportunity to experience the wealth of culture that the University has to offer. Students will be selling food and drink and the atmosphere will be carnival-like.”
