Drama queens come to Bristol

Alongside the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations, Bristol University's Theatre Collection's annual summer exhibition will be focusing on the Queens of Theatreland.

Not only will it feature Royal patronage of the theatre, but also the queens who have been the star players in some of the greatest plays ever written.

From Cleopatra to Elizabeth II, from fairy queens to drag queens, there will be plenty of interest for everyone. The exhibition will feature some of the most famous "drama queens" of the 20th century, including Vivien Leigh, Frances de la Tour and Janet Suzman. It will also be an opportunity to view items displayed publicly for the first time in the Theatre Collection.

Jo Elsworth, Keeper of the Theatre Collection, said: 'We have a really outstanding resource here, and we're keen that local people and visitors from further afield should be able to enjoy it. They will all be very welcome.'

The free exhibition will run from Monday June 10 until Friday, September 27. The Theatre Collection is located at 21 Park Row and is open Monday to Friday, 10 am to 4 pm.
