University shortlisted for prestigious award

A pioneering Web-based survey that enables higher education human resource departments to gather opinion data from Contract Research Staff (CRS) has been shortlisted for a national award.

The Contract Research Staff Online Survey (CROS) was developed in 1999 by Bristol University's Institute for Learning and Research Technology (ILRT) working in partnership with its Personnel Services department.

CROS provides a fully integrated Web environment for the design, delivery, administration and analysis of online staff surveys for CRS.

The product is free and allows university human resource departments to gather opinion data efficiently from CRS about a range of key indicators and compare this with other institutions. The objective is to share information to improve the performance of the higher education sector collaboratively.

Seventeen UK universities ran surveys for their CRS in January 2002 and some ten per cent of the total UK CRS population provided replies.

CROS has been shortlisted in the Personnel Today Awards 2002, in the category of 'Excellence in HR through IT'. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on October 31.
