Bristol Business Plan finalists announced

Enterprising students and staff at Bristol University were told at a reception yesterday [Thursday, February 28] that they are a step closer to winning a share of £33,000. Phil Young, Director (West Country and Wales) of Fortis Bank, announced the 12 finalists who have been selected to compete in the final round of the Bristol Enterprise Centre's Business Plan Competition.

The 12 finalists, who also won an interim cash prize of between £250 and £1,000, are:

Josh Howlett - Roam Technologies
Jeff Odell and Steve Carrington - MicroRheology: The flow of complex fluids
Mike Cowin - Compact integrated wavelength filter for telecommunication networks
Tom Buckler - ACNet

£500 cash prize winners
Richard Wall and Kieren Pitts - Strikewise: for predicting sheep blowfly strike
Remmert Schouten - The hand that feeds us
Kevin Potter and Chris Setchell - The video gauge
Nawaf Baraya - 3D University tours

£250 cash prize winners
Simon Rae, Tim Milstead and Darren Boyce - Creative impulse
Cathy Fuller, Samantha Franklin and Robert Colborne - Veterinary Rehabilitation Centre
Nicky Ferguson - E-carshare
Paul Clark and Mjid Mirmehdi - Document acquisition using a digital camera

The 12 finalists have two months to produce a full business plan for their idea. All entrants will continue to receive business support together with mentoring in commercial and business planning from BEC and the internationally renowned sponsor group that includes Citigate Dewe Rogerson, Deloitte & Touche, Fortis Bank, Osborne Clarke OWA and STMicroelectronics.

The winner of the competition will be announced at the beginning of July.
