Virtual Economy

Press release issued: 13 March 2001

UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL
How Well Could You Run the Economy?

Try out your fiscal skills in the run up to this week's Budget and see if you can run the economy better than Chancellor Gordon Brown, using the Virtual Economy at www.bized.ac.uk/virtual/economy

The Virtual Economy has been developed by Biz/ed at the University of Bristol's Institute for Learning and Research Technology and the Institute for Fiscal Studies.

Through the on-line service, you can change tax rates, excise duties, interest rates and Government expenditure to see what effect they have on the economy. The results tell you what has happened to the economy overall and how your policies have affected individual families.

Biz/ed has also prepared an on-line Budget special at www.bized.ac.uk/stafsup/options/budget/budget.html where users can vote for their favourite Budget, enter a Budget competition and become a 'Budget Bore' by finding out Budget facts and trivia.
