Children could find it easier to reach a healthier weight if their parents are addressing their own weight

Press release issued: 9 May 2022

New research presented at the European Congress on Obesity (ECO) in Maastricht, the Netherlands (4-7 May 2022), has found that many parents attending commercial weight management programmes would be happy for their child, if overweight, to also receive support to reach a healthier weight.

Almost half of parents surveyed said that one or more of their children had a healthier diet since they had started to address their own weight.  More than a quarter of parents stated one or more of their children was doing more exercise.

More than half of parents said they felt more motivated to help support one or more of their children reach or maintain a healthy weight, since starting to address their own weight.
