Swindon LiP Service

Representing yourself in court can be overwhelming, especially when dealing with disputes involving children. If you're navigating the legal system as a Litigant in Person (LiP), our student-led service can help.

Who we help

Our law students provide a free information service specifically for individuals involved in family law disputes, such as:

  • Child Arrangements Orders (e.g. who a child lives with or spends time with)
  • Specific Issue Orders (e.g. decisions about schooling or medical treatment)
  • Prohibited Steps Orders (e.g. preventing certain actions by one parent)

Our service is normally restricted to cases being handled by Swindon Family Court.

How we can help

Our aim is to ensure you leave the session with a clear understanding of the process, giving you greater confidence when appearing in court. We can guide you through:

  • The family court process
  • Legal terminology you might encounter
  • Preparing for your court hearing
  • What to expect on the day

How it works

  • When: Sessions are available on weekdays via telephone or video call (Microsoft Teams or Zoom).
  • Availability: Appointments depend on student availability.
  • Supervised Support: While our students are not legally qualified and cannot advise on the merits of your case, all the information provided is reviewed by supervising solicitors.
