BSN Grassroots Programme

The Grassroots Programme from the Black Solicitors Network (BSN) is an intensive programme of careers and skills workshops, guiding students through a career development journey over the course of one academic year. The scheme is held in partnership with the Law School, industry experts and experienced lawyers.

The Programme is a bespoke offering to Black university students from underrepresented backgrounds who are interested in a career in law and studying at one of the Programme’s four sponsor universities: University of Manchester (Headline Sponsor), Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Salford and University of Bristol. 

Programme Timeline 

The Grassroots Programme will commence in October, delivering six workshops in collaboration with experts and partners to the cohort over the course of the academic year, concluding in  June. The themes for and timeline of the workshops are: 

Careers 

  • CVs and application forms, including a session on aptitude testing  
  • Interviews, including a commercial awareness session 
  • Networking and Reputation Management  

Skills 

Interactive skills development workshops designed with input from leading academic / talent consultants include: 

  • Negotiation  
  • Legal drafting  
  • Advocacy
